Dangerous-goods licence preparation: inventory, SDS and premises plans
Before discussing a dangerous-goods licence or associated works, prepare actual materials, maximum quantities, safety data sheets and the premises layout. Use this information checklist to support review with the responsible specialists and FSD.
Dangerous goods licence applications and related worksList actual products and maximum quantities
Record product names, suppliers, SDS dates, packaging and the maximum quantity present at one time. Include original packages and in-use containers, retaining measurement units. Describe whether materials are stored, used, produced or involved in another activity so the review reflects the operation rather than an average purchase volume.
Ask suppliers for missing SDS or classification information. A trade name, colour or description such as 'small usage' does not settle licensing requirements. Have the responsible parties review the current regime and case information with FSD rather than relying on an old classification or assumed exemption.
Connect the inventory to the premises plan
Give each material group an identifier on the premises plan, adding known entrances, adjoining uses and relevant equipment. Distinguish existing conditions, the proposed layout and unverified information so specialists can review the case and identify what further site or technical information is required.
Have the appropriate parties assess classification, storage arrangements, fire installations and other work for the particular case. This preparation list does not define handling, repacking or storage-design instructions. Resolve the required technical and procedural checks before committing to an unverified installation configuration.
| Prepare | Content and review point |
|---|---|
| Products and SDS | Supplier, revision, classification and missing information. |
| Quantity and packaging | Maximum stock, units, containers and materials in use. |
| Premises and layout | Address, floor, material locations, access and adjoining uses. |
| Activity and equipment | Actual activity, equipment, existing facilities and proposed changes. |
| Application and follow-up | Existing licences, written requirements, submission contact and open questions. |
Allocate application, works and inspection responsibilities
Ask the service proposal to distinguish data preparation, plans, authority clarification, installation, inspections and document follow-up. Refer building or structural alterations to the appropriate professionals for the relevant procedures. Keep those premises processes visible alongside the dangerous-goods application.
When further information is requested, update the same inventory and plan revision, recording responses and open items. If materials, quantities, layout or activity later change, ask the responsible parties to confirm any further procedure before treating the previous arrangement as covering the new operation.
Prepare these details for your enquiry
- Current SDS and supplier information
- Maximum quantities, units and packaging
- Existing/proposed premises plan
- Activity, equipment and existing licences
- Submission, works and inspection responsibility
Common questions
Is a trade name enough to assess licensing?
Obtain the SDS, actual classification, quantities and activity information for review under the current regime. The trade name alone is insufficient.
Does supplying the checklist guarantee approval?
The checklist supports preparation and clarification. The relevant authority determines requirements and approval for the case; engineering and professional work must follow the confirmed scope.
Discuss dangerous-goods licence and works preparation
Send the inventory, SDS, maximum quantities and plans to review information and works scope.
- Review premises and material information
- Identify fire-work interfaces
- Define submission and follow-up scope
