Sprinkler exemption applications: voids, canopies and supporting information

FSD provides sprinkler-exemption application material for locations including raised floors, ceilings and other voids. The project team should check the applicable code, location and construction before selecting an application route.

Submission, requests for information and written acceptance are separate stages. A pending application is not a basis to remove sprinkler heads or close access; plan the works against the formally confirmed scope.

Prepare plans, sections, dimensions and photographs showing materials, pipes, cables and equipment. A finished-ceiling visual alone does not give the team enough information to understand a concealed space.

If drawings differ from the site, record the discrepancies before deciding on further information or a revised proposal. Define responsibility for investigation, opening-up, drawings and installation work in the quotation.

Keep the accepted scope and conditions with the as-built records. If cables, materials or storage use change later, compare the proposal with that record and ask the project team whether further authority confirmation is required.

If sprinkler additions or alterations are needed, allow for shutdown coordination, installation and testing. Include the possible works in the project budget so the fit-out is not planned solely on an assumed exemption.
