Quick answers
Can I fill in and post an FSD notice after downloading it?
Before posting, confirm the affected equipment, dates and contacts with the responsible registered fire service installation contractor. Agree who will complete, post and update the notice and handle any reporting required by the circular.
Legal information
Requirements vary by premises. Confirm the work with the responsible professional using the premises use, approved plans, licence conditions and any written directions.
Which document do you need?
For an inspection or certificate enquiry, start with FSD's FS251 information page. For planned system downtime, open the shutdown notice; for faulty equipment, open the defect notice. The escape and extinguisher leaflets are for resident or staff information. Each link explains its purpose.
The links lead to original files or pages on the FSD website. Open a PDF and use your browser's download or print control to save it. The two notice formats sit inside circular appendices; their cards identify the appendix and PDF pages.
How to obtain an FS251 certificate
FSD Circular 4/2026 requires contractors to prepare and submit FS251 through the designated online system from 1 July 2026. Paper and legacy electronic forms are no longer accepted for submission. FSD's FS251 information page below provides the current process and guidance.
Contact your contractor to arrange an inspection, then ask for the completed certificate and inspection records. When you receive a new FS251, scan its QR code to verify the certificate details.
What to confirm before posting a notice
Review the notice with your registered fire service installation contractor and confirm the affected equipment, dates and contacts. Agree who will post and update the notice, handle any required reporting and confirm when the installation is back in service.
Keep the complete circular so the notice remains connected to its instructions. If you are unsure whether the situation is routine testing, a shutdown or a fault, gather the equipment location, photos and the contractor's existing notice before agreeing the next step.
