Teppanyaki fire requirements: fuel, gas shut-off and project planning
Opening a teppanyaki restaurant or adding a counter? Review fuel restrictions, secure installation and gas or electrical documentation before coordinating the fire works.
If there is fire or immediate danger
Leave the premises using a safe route and call Hong Kong emergency services on 999. Do not remain to investigate or use a lift.
Legal information
This guide helps with initial planning; it is not legal advice or an engineering assessment of your premises. Confirm the requirements against the use, approved plans, licence conditions, written directions and current official documents.
Quick answers
Can bottled LPG supply a teppanyaki counter?
The specific teppanyaki requirements prohibit bottled LPG in the designated area. Have the proposed supply checked against the document during design.
Confirm the fuel before ordering the counter
FSD's teppanyaki requirements exclude liquid fuel and bottled LPG in the designated area. They allow electricity, centralized LPG or town gas, with automatic gas shut-off where piped gas is used.
Ask the equipment supplier for the model, energy requirements and installation drawing with the quotation. Have site conditions checked before fabrication so supply and control issues can be resolved while changes are still practical.
Define installation, supply and testing responsibilities
The cooking unit must be secured, and electrical, town-gas and piped-LPG systems have their own installation and documentation requirements. A fire-installation appointment should not be assumed to include every gas or electrical role.
Record who handles shut-off controls, fire signals, extraction and associated equipment in the works schedule. Allow for joint testing and agree each party's evidence and handover responsibilities before placing orders.
Review seating and maintenance access together
Teppanyaki places customers close to cooking equipment. Include staff circulation and maintenance access in the design review, using actual equipment dimensions rather than relying on a visual concept alone.
When taking over a restaurant or adding another counter, review the altered area again. Keep the previous records for comparison and ask the team to identify drawings, tests and certificates that need updating.
Practical checklist
- Cooking-unit model and energy needs
- Fuel supply and automatic shut-off proposal
- Seating, staff routes and service access
- Fire, ventilation, electrical and gas responsibilities
- Joint-testing and document handover dates
Arrange a teppanyaki fire-works assessment
Share the counter location, appliance model and fuel plan so we can review the fire scope and trade coordination.
- Review fire equipment and counter positions
- Coordinate tests with the relevant specialists
- Define alterations, records and quotation scope
